There is a biker legend that says that Evil Road Spirits have been attaching themselves to motorcycles as long as bikes have been on the road.  The legend goes on to say that these Evil Road Spirits are responsible for bikes breaking down.

Guardian Bells and Evil Road Spirits

The legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell to a bike, the Evil Road Spirits become trapped in the bell.  The contestant ringing inside the bell drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they finally fall to the ground.

A Gift from a Friend

Guardian bells are intended to be given as a gift.  In fact, the legend also says that a Guardian Bell has twice as much power if it is purchased by a friend or a loved one and given as a gift.
